Three Options to Replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur

While Tottenham Hotspur prepare for a shot at glory in the Europa League final against Manchester United, speculation continues to mount over Ange Postecoglou’s future in north London.
Despite leading Spurs to their first European final in over 40 years, the club’s dismal domestic campaign—17th in the Premier League with 20 defeats and only 38 points—has left fans and pundits questioning whether the Australian should remain in charge beyond the summer.
His clashes with supporters and outspoken views on club operations, including pointed comments about Daniel Levy, may have damaged his standing beyond repair.
With matchday specials already reflecting the uncertainty surrounding the Spurs dugout and football betting odds shifting in anticipation of managerial change, attention turns to who might succeed Postecoglou. Here are three potential replacements to take the reins at Tottenham Hotspur.
Thomas Frank
Thomas Frank has done a fantastic job with Brentford, overseeing their return to the top-flight of English football for the first time since 1947 in 2021 and helping them become a mainstay in the Premier League for the last four seasons.
Many questioned if the Danish coach had done all he could with the Bees after they finished 16th last year, but he’s taken them back up the table even after losing talisman Ivan Toney. Brentford now have European football aspirations—they sit eighth currently—which could see them qualify for the Conference League.
Given his achievements with Brentford and his overall philosophy, it’s fair to say Frank would be a good fit for Spurs. However, it remains to be seen whether he can do what Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte, and now Postecoglou couldn’t in recent years.
Mauricio Pochettino
A potential homecoming for Mauricio Pochettino never seems off the cards, and the Argentine boss even alluded to a return to north London early this year when saying that he wants to come back one day and still has a close relationship with Levy—with whom he was spotted around the same time.
Pochettino infamously joined forces with Spurs’ rivals Chelsea in 2023, but he lasted just one season in the Stamford Bridge hot seat. Blues owner Todd Boehly fired him at the end of the campaign despite a strong finish that saw his side finish sixth in the Premier League.
Pochettino currently being the head coach of the United States men’s national team is a potential blocker in a move back to Tottenham, though. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted in the US, and you’d imagine the 53-year-old would want to carry on that project given the circumstances.
Andoni Iraola
If Spurs had their eye on Andoni Iraola this summer, they’ve been given a massive boost in the race for the Spaniard’s signature, as Real Madrid have chosen former player Xabi Alonso to replace the outgoing Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season.
Iraola was a surprise appointment by Bournemouth in 2023, with many pundits and fans alike deeming his sudden replacement of Gary O’Neill harsh given the Englishman guided the Cherries to a 15th-place finish when picking up the pieces from Scott Parker.
The former Rayo Vallecano boss has proved to be an inspired appointment, but it’s hard to see him staying at the Vitality Stadium much longer, with bigger clubs beginning to circle the south coast like seagulls ready to swoop on an unattended bag of chips.
