Adding products to Shopify
Adding products to Shopify
Now that you have a Shopify account, you need to start adding products so that customers can purchase them from your online store. You can add products manually or import them in bulk using a CSV file.
If you plan on selling physical goods, you’ll need to add your product’s name, description, price, and images. If you plan on selling digital products, you’ll need to add your product’s file.
how to add products to shopify
To add a product:
- From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Add product.
- Enter a name and description for your product.
- Choose whether your product is physical or digital.
- If your product is physical, add a price, SKU (stock keeping unit), and weight. If your product is digital, add a file.
- If you want, add images of your product. You can also add an image from another website by copying and pasting the URL of the image.
- Choose whether to publish your product now or save it as a draft.
When you add a product to Shopify, it’s automatically added to your online store’s inventory. If you’re selling physical goods, customers can purchase your products from your online store. If you’re selling digital goods, customers can download your products after they purchase them.
Editing product information
You can edit your product’s name, description, price, weight, and images at any time.
To change your product’s information:
- From your Shopify admin, go to Products > All products.
- Click the name of the product you want to edit.
- On the Edit product page, make the changes that you want.
- When you’re done, click Save.
- Deleting products from your Shopify admin
You can delete products from your Shopify admin if you no longer want to sell them. When you delete a product, it’s permanently removed from your store and can’t be recovered. If you plan on selling the product at a later date, then we recommend that you unpublish the product instead of deleting it.
Assigning tags and categories to products
You can use tags and categories to organize your products. For example, you could add the tag “Summer collection” to all of the products in your summer collection, or you could add the category “T-shirts” to all of your T-shirt products.
When you add a tag or category to a product, it’s automatically added to all of the product’s variants. You can add multiple tags and categories to products. For example, you could add the tags “Summer collection” and “Sale” to a product, or you could add the categories “T-shirts” and “Men’s T-shirts” to a product.
Pricing products
When you add a physical product to Shopify, you can set a price for the product and its variants. You can also offer customers discounts by creating discount codes.
If you’re selling digital products, you can set a price for each file individually. For example, if you’re selling an ebook, you could set a different price for each different file format (PDF, EPUB, and MOBI). You can also offer customers discounts on digital products by creating discount codes.
Discounts and sales pricing
You can offer customers discounts on their purchases by creating discount codes. For example, you could create a discount code for 10% off all orders, or free shipping on orders over $100.
You can also offer sales pricing on your products. Sales pricing lets you temporarily lower the price of a product, and can be set up to start and end on specific dates. For example, you could have a product on sale from June 1 to June 30.
You can offer customers discounts and sales pricing at the same time. For example, you could offer 10% off all orders, with free shipping on orders over $100.
Scheduling discounts and sales
Discounts and sales can be scheduled to start and end on specific dates. For example, you could schedule a discount to start on June 1 and end on June 30.
When you create a discount or sale, you can choose whether it’s automatically published or saved as a draft. If you save a discount or sale as a draft, then it won’t be visible to your customers until you publish it.
